Also known as Trout Beans, these long, slender, and mottled-looking beans perform best in chilis, soups, and other rustic eats. Legend says Jacob’s Cattle Beans were a gift from the Passamaquoddy people of Maine to the first Caucasian child born in Lubuc, Maine. Since then, these heirloom beans have been passed down for generations, and have remained mostly in the northeastern part of the USA and Canada. In the spirit of giving, we’re making these fruity, nutty beans graced with a firm texture available to you here.

Superfood stat: Jacob’s Cattle Beans have 6 grams of protein per 100 grams, and are packed with Vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, and calcium.

Good for:  Vegetarians, vegans, and those looking for lots of nutrients in a bean high in fiber and low on fat.

How to store: Don’t spill the beans! Keep them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, and their shelf-life will be around a year.

How to cook: When ready to use, give them a soak overnight and then rinse and sort them before cooking.

Retail Package Serving Size: There are approximately 7 servings per 22 oz bag.

Allergy note: Packaged in a facility that handles Lupin and Tree nuts. All our beans are gluten-free and non-GMO, grown here in the USA!

Fun Fact: It’s said Jacob’s Cattle Bean got its name because the mottled maroon markings on the beans were like those of spotted Hereford cattle.

Brothy Heirloom Beans with Cream: Use a blend of your favorite beans, such as the Dapple Grey, Calypso, and Jacob’s Cattle Beans, to create a protein-packed bowl of delicious.
